Developing a Plume‐in‐Grid Model for Plume Evolution in the Stratosphere

Abstract Stratospheric emissions from aircraft or rockets are important sources of chemical perturbations. Small‐radius high‐aspect‐ratio plumes stratospheric smaller than global Eulerian models' grid cells. To help models resolve subgrid in the stratosphere, a Lagrangian plume model, comprising trajectory model and an adaptive‐grid with sequence cross‐section representations (from highly resolved 2‐D to simplified 1‐D based on tradeoff between accuracy computational cost), is created embedded into (i.e., GEOS‐Chem) establish multiscale Plume‐in‐Grid (PiG) model.
